If a human uses their body, emotions, intellect, and desires wrongly, they could destroy themselves and harm others too. For this reason, it was necessary that Allah—who created man—send a guide explaining how to use each part of the body, how to manage feelings and emotions, how to control the mind, and how to fulfill desires in a lawful and healthy way.

Therefore, Allah sent down revelations (Wahi) through His prophets so that people may live their lives correctly and happily in this world and succeed in the hereafter. Without Wahi, a person would be like someone lost in a dense jungle with no map, compass, or guide, who doesn’t know which direction to go. In the same way, without Wahi, a person does not know the purpose of life, what is right or wrong, and what the consequences of actions are. Hence, Wahi is essential.

What is Wahi (Revelation)?

The literal meaning of Wahi is a hidden or secret message. In Islamic terms, it refers to the special message that Allah conveys to His prophets through an angel (especially Jibreel A.S.), directly or indirectly. The prophet receives it with complete certainty that it is from Allah. Through this, the prophet is given knowledge of the unseen and guidance for himself and others.

The Holy Qur’an is a form of Wahi. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the Qur’an through Wahi. He was given many other forms of divine inspiration and revelations besides the Qur’an as well.

That’s why intellectuals and philosophers have often differed in opinions—even on basic questions like “What is the purpose of life?” or “What is right and wrong?”

So the real and definite source of guidance must be something that is free from doubt and errors. It must come from someone whose knowledge is perfect and absolute—this can only be Allah. That is why revelation (Wahi) is essential.
